BIBA is opened 5 days a week, Wednesdays and Sundays are days off.
Studying at BIBA does not only make you improve at Baduk, it also makes you stronger to learn how to study Baduk!
The studies are revolving around the following:
- League games with other students and reviews by the teachers
Students have weekly league games, the basic time is 30 minutes and the byoyomi is 30 seconds 3 times. Time settings are usually faster than what students are used to in tournaments in Europe or America! However, a student should play about two games per day and leave time for other things as well. After the games, the teachers review as many games as they can. BIBA is lucky to have many teachers and it is rare to see a game not reviewed!
- Life & Death problems
Some people love them, some people hate them, but all students must solve them! BIBA has many L&D books, the problems are given daily to the students. It is also possible to buy books containing thousands of L&D problems, so you can continue solving them at home!
Blackie gives lectures 2-3 times a week, after that Dia makes them in pdf format so the students can also memorize and study them by themselves. Over the years, BIBA has made many lectures covering a large choice of topics. From the Shimari and the Kobayashi Opening to the recent AlphaGo games, it is hard not to find what you like!
- Teaching games
Time to time, the teachers play teaching games with the students and then review the games! In big Korean schools, getting a teaching game from a professional player is not included to the basic study program, but here in BIBA the students get the chance to try their level against the teachers as well!
- Online Teaching
All students in BIBA are automatically registered to the Online Teaching Program. That is even more games and more reviews for you!
Baduk can’t be always taught, you also need to learn how to study on your own. You need to have your own time and study the things you lack of. BIBA is a Korean style academy with the advantage of having a good teachers/students ratio. However, self-study is still required! It is necessary to review pro games, study lectures, solve L&D problems or review your own game. The students have different strength at different part of the game; therefore they need their own time to study the things they are missing.
Students are welcomed to organize their studies as they see fit. By experience, self-studies usually are done in the morning while reviews and L&D are done in the afternoon/evening.
